This was supposed to be an entry for =Nyxens autumn contest. Unfortunelty she had some very bad news and called the contest off... So I've decided to dedicate the piece to her instead. :aww:

Feedback is welcome, but not required, so if you have something helpful to add for future reference for me, please do tell.

I wanted a very misty, gloomy feel to the image, but have it reach for light and hope. The title refers to the grey gloomy sky, that is lit to colors by the light. Working name was reach. Couldn't tell you how many hours as I've been working on it for a good while now on and off and haven't kept track, sorry! ^^

Well, DAMN. The subdued colours really work and the backlighting is perfect... I can never get over your talent for leaves and natural light, and I love the feeling of movement, of bursting out into the light. Did you paint the trees by hand, each leaf individually? Was there a particular brush you used to get texture? Because, just to repeat myself, DAMN.

I do trees with several techniqes in each sitting- I use like at least three custom brushes I've made, and use them at several different settings, I use textures. I also do a lot of editing - like blur, copy and paste, blur again, draw some leaves by hand etc... It's all about finding textures and how to do it on a computer - I find I have to rethink everythign I knwo about painting trees when I go to do it on a screen ^^ it take sa while though! I redid the trees like five times on this piece!
